It’s off topic for this blog, but somewhere between the hot dogs, and the potato salad, and the fireworks, I would encourage you to read the Declaration of Independence, and if possible, the Constitution of the United States. As a historian I am compelled to note that Congress has actually voted to declare independence on July 2, it was just the wording of the Declaration that was approved on July 4. I hopefully assume that this historical fact is the reason that my neighbors have been shooting off fireworks for two days now.
